The History Behind Greenliant Systems
Greenliant Systems is a private US semiconductor company from Santa Clara in California which was formed in 2010 by Bing Yeh, who remains today as its CEO and chairman. Their main focus is on the production of Solid State Drives (SSDs), products for data centres, controller hardware and NAND flash devices and is affiliated with many industry bodies that include NVM Express, JEDEC, the Storage Networking Industry Assoc and PCI-SIG.
Though the company has its headquarters in California, it also has operations offices both in Asia and Europe
It's Beginnings
Greenliant wasn’t the first company started by Bing Yeh, as he had previously Silicon Storage Technology (SST) back in 1989, which went on to be acquired by American giant Microchip technology in 2010. This led to Yeh’s departure, along with a number of other SST executives to form Greenliant. Its purpose was to capitalise on the then largely untapped flash Drive market and for this reason, the company bought a number of related assets and technology from Microchip for a fee in the region of £16m.
Development
In the first two years after the company’s launch, Greenliant started work on both MMC Interface NANDrive and SATA Interface NANDrive technologies, which were particularly designed for industrial applications. So resilient were they that they were able to operate in extremes of temperatures, as low as -40 degrees and +85 degrees centigrade.

The Concurrent SuperFlash (CSF), Small Sector Flash (SSF) family of products that have been created for applications that require excellent data reliability. Also featuring low levels of power consumption, it does its job efficiently and with a small carbon footprint.
Greenliant may have been in existence for less than a decade, but it has already contributed greatly to the advancement of solid state storage technology. Given another 10 years, who knows what other innovations they will come up with.
