Windows 10’s on Its Way Out - What That Means for You

So here we are. Microsoft has finally set the date: Windows 10 support ends on 14 October 2025.

No more updates. No more patches. No quiet little fixes running in the background. Done.

If you're still using Windows 10, and let's face it, lots of people are, it's probably time to think about what comes next. Not in a panic way, but in a “don’t leave it too late” kind of way.

What Does "End of Support" Actually Mean?

It’s not that your computer will stop working. It won’t. It’ll boot up just fine on 15 October.

But from that point on, Microsoft stops sending security updates. Which is a big deal.

    • Bugs? Won’t be fixed.
    • New security threats? No patches.
    • New features? Definitely not.

Basically, your PC becomes a sitting duck, especially if you’re online (which you are). That’s a problem for anyone. For businesses, it’s worse there are compliance risks, vulnerabilities, and headaches waiting to happen.

Can You Just Switch to Windows 11?

That depends. Windows 11 is great slicker look, better performance and built-in security stuff. But it’s a bit picky about the hardware it’ll run on.

    Here’s the gist:

    • A reasonably modern processor (nothing ancient)
    • At least 4GB of RAM (but 8GB+ is just more pleasant)
    • 64GB of storage space
    • A TPM 2.0 chip (don’t worry if you’ve never heard of this, we cover this in detail for you in another blog)
    • UEFI firmware (basically, newer systems have it)
    • DirectX 12 graphics support
    • 9" screen or bigger (for laptops)

If all that sounds a bit much no stress. We’ve got a Scanner that checks it for you. Or just use our brand-based configurators to see what’s compatible.

Upgrade What You’ve Got Or Go New?

Let’s be honest: not every machine needs to go in the bin.

If your PC’s close to the spec or maybe just a bit sluggish, then a memory upgrade or a new SSD could keep it going for years.

But if it’s missing key stuff (like TPM or UEFI) or it struggles to keep up with basic tasks, it might not be worth patching it up.

We’re seeing a lot of people take a middle road: upgrade the good machines and replace the ones that just aren’t worth saving.

    What People Are Asking Us

One question that comes up a lot:

“Can I just wait and see what happens?”

Sure. But the closer we get to the cut-off date, the more rushed everything becomes. You don't want to be stuck bulk-ordering upgrades or replacing machines last minute.

And prices tend to jump when everyone's doing the same thing at once.

We find that planning is key especially with our corporate clients that need to upgrade a range of different types of machines from laptops and desktops to tablets.

With the school summer holidays just around the corner this is a key time for IT organisations to be looking at upgrading machines sitewide.

If you are upgrading a wider range of machines, our account managers are always on hand to do the heavy lifting for you in confirming what would be needed on each machine for the requirements to be met.

    How We Fit In

We’re not here to upsell you a full new setup. That’s not us.

But if your machine could use more RAM or an SSD to give it a bit of zip, that’s where we come in. We’ve got parts matched to your exact model, no guesswork. Just plug in your model and go.

    • We know our stuff (genuinely, we do this all day)
    • We offer a range of delivery options
    • We help businesses sort big rollouts, too

Wrap-Up: Don’t Leave It Too Late

It’s easy to ignore these deadlines — they always seem ages away.

But the truth is, 14 October 2025 will sneak up fast. And once support ends, there’s no easy fix. Better to be ready than stuck rushing a decision later.

Not sure where to start? Run a scan. See what’s possible. Then decide what works for you.
