SDRAM is short for Synchronous DRAM and operates at 66Mhz, 100Mhz and 133Mhz speeds. This is approxiamtely three times faster than FPM (Fast Page Mode) DRAM and about twice as fast as EDO (Enhanced Data Output) DRAM. Manufactured using premium brand chips from Samsung, Hyundai, NEC etc, OFFTEK offers PC66, PC100 and PC133 modules.
If you are unsure of the SDRAM memory you require for your machine from the list below please email support@offtek.co.uk. One of our support team will then be happy to confirm compatibility for you.
The following information is provided to assist with the installation of 72 Pin Simms, 168 Pin Dimms, 184 Pin Dimms/Rimms and 240 Pin Dimms.
General Precautions
1.
Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord.
2.
Remove the computer
cover following the instructions located in your system owners manual.
3.
Before installing your
memory, discharge any static electricity by grounding yourself to a metal object, such as the casing on your computer.
4.
Locate the area where the memory is to be installed and remove any peripherals that may be obstructing access to the memory sockets.
5.
All modules must only be handled by their edges and should not be handled by the chips themselves.
6.
Remove any existing memory if necessary to install the new memory products
7.
72 Pin memory is generally installed in pairs but 168 Pin Dimms can normally be installed one at a
time. Please refer to your owners manual for specific information.
72 Pin Simm Memory Installation Guidelines
1.
Align the metal connectors of the memory
module with the metal connectors of the simm socket on the motherboard. Be sure
that the simm is aligned properly and that all pins line up correctly. If the
simm does not fit, turn it around as simms are keyed and will only fit in one
way round. 168 Pin Dimms have two cutouts along the row of pins and 184/240 Pin Dimms
have only one cutout.
2.
Insert the module at a 45 degree angle and
carefully grasp the two ends of the module and gently snap into place into the
upright position.
3.
Check to make sure that both retaining
posts have locked onto the module and are holding it securely in place.
4.
Replace the computer cover and reattach
cables and peripherals..
5.
Update the computers memory configuration if required as outlined in the computer users manual

SoDimm Memory Installation Guidelines
1.
If the SoDimm is being installed into a
notebook or hand-held computer that has a battery installed, then ensure that
the battery is removed before beginning installation.
2.
72 Pin SoDimms have a small cutout on the
bottom of the module next to the pins. This ensures that the modules can only
be installed one way round. 144 Pin and 200 Pin SoDimms have a cutout along the pins which
again only allows the module to be inserted one way round.
3.
Insert the module at a 30 degree angle and push the module firmly but gently into the slot until the security latches on the sockets have locked into place on each side of the module.
4.
Replace the computer cover and reattach cables and peripherals..
5.

A 168 Pin Dimm is approximately 5 ¼ inches in length and 1 inch
in height and contains 84 Pins on either side. It is referred to as a 168 Pin Dimm because it reads both sides of the
Dimm simultaneously. The Dimm is different from the Simm in that it has two notches on the contact edge and inserts into
the socket straight down, without the need for tilting. Dimm sockets also have release tabs at each end which acts as a
lever to push the module up out of the socket during removal.
There are several different flavours of Dimm, including FPM, SDRAM (7, 8,10,12 Megaherz), EDO (Buffered, Non-Buffered,
3.3V & 5V). ECC (Error Correction Code) and Registered. It is imperative to select the correct type of module when upgrading
and memory search facility located on our home page will identify the correct upgrades for your model.
As a general rule, SDRAM is backwards compatible,
therefore a PC133 Dimm can operate at 133Mhz, 100Mhz and 66Mhz. Certain systems though that require 66Mhz SDRAM modules
will not accept PC100 or PC133 modules. In addition to the speed, the chip configuration of the module is also important.
Use our memory search facility located on our home page at (http://www.offtek.co.uk) for guaranteed compatibility.
A 144 pin SoDimm is approximately 2.625 inches in length and 1 inch
high and are commonly found in laptop computers. Each 144-pin SODIMM provides a 64-bit data path, so they are installed
singly in 64-bit systems. 144-pin SODIMMs are available in EDO, PC66, PC100 and PC133 SDRAM.
A 144 Pin SDRAM MicroDimm is approximately 1.545" x 1 inch
in height and is designed for laptops. Each 144-pin MicroDimm provides a 64-bit data path, so they are installed
singly in 64-bit systems. 144-pin MicroDimm are available in PC100/PC133 SDRAM.
